Autumn is the perfect time to up your skincare regime. Makeup addict Lisa Boyle shows you the hottest products of the season.

It’s that time already. Christmas is lurking around the corner, the nights are getting darker, and all of a sudden many of us just want to curl up on the sofa with a mug of tea and in a pair of oversized PJs. Bliss.

When autumn arrives we really can’t be bothered making as much of an effort when it comes to our beauty regime.

Nonetheless, this is also one of the best times to snap up some fabulous seasonal beauty collections, often with products and colours that suit more mature skin.

As the weather begins to change, a once healthy complexion can end up lacking.

The holiday suntan and glowing cheeks have faded and cold, windy weather can wreak havoc by making skin feel pasty and dry.

Range
However, on a positive note, right now there is an amazing range of skincare and makeup technologies sweeping the beauty industry.

Skincare guru Liz Earle has recently launched a line of makeup products, in addition to their skincare best-sellers.

YSL has also just launched its amazing Touche Eclat concealer in foundation form.

The best products to look out for are the ones that can be applied with minimal fuss – you are more likely to use it if you can apply it quickly and easily.

Moisture
Look for multi-purpose makeup items and simple skincare collections which contain an extra moisture boost to help protect from harsh environmental factors.

Decleor Aroma Night Balm, £28 is a fantastic beauty balm for mature skin. A teensy amount goes a long way and this ultra-hydrating night balm penetrates deep beneath the skin surface to plump skin and smooth wrinkles.

For brighter skin, look to YSL Touche Eclat foundation, £27 – which is fantastic for brightening the entire face. This light fluid formula evens the complexion, erases imperfections and disguises fine lines by illuminating the contours of the face.

Prep with a moisturising and pore-minimising primer such as award-winning Laura Mercier Oil-Free Primer, £28. This will ensure your makeup lasts all day and prevents redness from showing through when the cold hits your cheeks.

Lips
For lips, Clinique’s Chubby Stick £16 is perfect for keeping them plump and hydrated and comes in a variety of colours to suit any skin tone.

This provides just enough of a natural sheen without looking too heavy and is easy to pop in your handbag for topping up throughout the day.

Mineral makeup is also having its moment – the original mineral brand bareMinerals has launched a huge range of new pressed products in addition to their loose pigments.

Opt for a mineral powder such as bareMinerals foundation, £29, which gives a gorgeous glow when buffed onto the skin.

bareMinerals also do a fantastic gentle mascara called bareMinerals Flawless Definition Curl & Lengthen mascara, £16 which is not only water resistant but gives the most gorgeous curl to lashes without looking clumpy or unnatural.

Winter serum
Lastly as a beauty writer, I’d advise anyone to invest in a good skin serum in preparation for the coming winter.

Nothing beats Estee Lauder’s heroic Advanced Repair Night Serum. This fights ageing like no other and leaves the skin feeling silky and smooth.

Just be sure not to let the grandchildren get a hold of these hero products. Place them high up on the bathroom cabinet. They are definitely not for play.
